The wildfires in Hawaii have caused immense destruction, displaced thousands of residents and taken the lives of at least 97 people. Those who have survived are left to deal with the impacts of the wildfire on their families, their homes, and their community in Maui.

One gift to the Smartfund will address immediate- and long-term needs through the below vetted nonprofits that are offering basic needs, medical supplies, cleaning and repairs, shelter and rebuilding support. The Smartfund allows you to address the very real and urgent needs now while thinking ahead to the long road of rebuilding and recovery.

  • World Central Kitchen

    IMMEDIATE RELIEF

World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team delivered 145,000 meals to families in Hawaii. They have begun partnering with two Maui-based organizations, ensuring WCK gets the best possible ingredients for community members who are now able to cook for themselves, while at the same time supporting farmers on the island impacted by the fires.

  • All Hands and Hearts

    IMMEDIATE RELIEF

All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) has supported volunteer coordination with the Hawaii Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster, matching over 300 volunteers with established organizations on Maui. Initially remote, AHAH team is now on Maui, working directly with them on the ground and connecting with other local partners.

  • Team Rubicon

    IMMEDIATE RELIEF

Team Rubicon began activating local volunteers to assist with logistics, donation management, crowd management, traffic control and more on Maui, and to ensure any disaster response work provided does not put more stress on an already heavily taxed community.

  • Maui Humane Society

    IMMEDIATE RELIEF

The Maui Humane Society has rescued 87 animals displaced by the fire, has reunited 30% of animals with owners, has provided aid to more than 375 animals at medical clinics in Lahaina and has distributed 7,000 pounds of pet and food supplies across the island.

  • LONG-TERM RELIEF

Hawaii Community Foundation is working in close collaboration with state and county leaders, nonprofit organizations, and community members to get an understanding of the quickly evolving priorities over various cause areas. They are following their four-phase approach to disaster response: Risk Reduction and Disaster Readiness, Rapid Relief and Response, Recovery and Stabilization, Rebuilding Resilience.
